Yavatmal law enforcement authorities have taken eight suspects into custody thus far, regarding the heinous murder of former municipal councillor Pravin Diwate. Among the apprehended, two individuals have been subjected to magisterial custody remand (MCR) as ordered by the court.
As the investigation deepens, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) has been assigned the task of locating the remaining suspects who remain at large.
Case Details of Gangster Diwate’s Tragic Demise
Ex-councillor and notorious gangster Pravin Diwate met a gruesome end when assailants attacked him in his Waghapur office on August 27 at 9 AM.
The perpetrators utilized tactics like sprinkling chilli powder on his face before shooting and stabbing him.
As the assailants made their escape on two-wheelers, they also abducted the office peon, Monu Bajad (19), who remains missing.
Progress in Arrests and Remands
Following the incident, two individuals named Banti Jaiswal and Jugya Maharaj were arrested by city police on the day after.
They were initially granted three days’ Police Custody Remand (PCR), which was subsequently extended until Friday.
Ultimately, the court decided to send them to jail under MCR. A minor among the suspects, Javed Sheikh, has been remanded to Juvenile Remand Home.
Critique of Investigation Triggers Change in Leadership
Expressing dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation, the complainant and deceased’s daughter, Shrushti Diwate, alleged that the police were closely associated with the mastermind of the assailants.
Responding to these concerns, SP Akhilesh Kumar Singh entrusted the investigation to the Local Crime Branch (LCB), under the leadership of Sanjay Deshmukh, to address any doubts publicly expressed by the complainant.
Intensive Search and Successful Arrests
Upon the LCB’s assumption of the case, the Anti Riot Squad embarked on a rigorous manhunt.
They managed to track down one of the suspects, Subham Jaiswal, in Adilabad district of Telangana.
Subham provided leads, indicating that four of his accomplices were in Hyderabad. The squad proceeded to Hyderabad, but the suspects had already departed for Pune.
The Anti Riot Squad traced the suspects’ movements, leading to their arrest in Solapur. The Pune Police was alerted and subsequently arrested another associate, Rohit Jadhav, from his hideout in Pune.
Progress in the Pursuit of Justice
Assistant Police Inspector Prashant Gite of the Anti Riot Squad disclosed that three suspects were apprehended in Solapur, one in Pune, and another in Manchirayal in Adilabad district of Telangana.
This brings the total number of arrests to eight so far. (Banti Jaiswal, Jugiya Maharaj, Jawed Sheikh, Subham Jaiswal, Vishal Dubey, Anant Gupta, Nilesh Sonore, and Rohit Jadhav.) However, the prime witness to the murder, Diwate’s peon Monu Bajad, remains untraceable.
Continuing the Pursuit of Truth
The investigation continues under the leadership of Sanjay Deshmukh, Chief of the Local Crime Branch, as they delve deeper into the complexities of the case to ensure justice is served.
