Political Betting When Australia won the match in February 2002 match on the rate of 37 paisa, bookies went in the pool of heavy loses. For the recovery, bookies started the political betting. For the 402 seats of UP Elections on February 6th, 2002, bookies opened the rate sheet for 4 big parties. They have given the BJP 100 seats for 8 paisa. Political betting draws the attention of bookies from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Rajkot too. Some betting was also made from Pakistan and UAE too. Gamblers from Mumbai had a good bet on arrest of Bal Thakare and resignations of three central minister of Shiv Sena. They believed that Thakare would not be arrested and Resignations of ministers will not be accepted by the central government. Due to match fixing, bookies and punters were searching other subjects for betting. They wanted subjects were fixing is not possible. Betting industry invested Rs. 300 crores on Thakare within one week. His ‘no arrest’ mark was 19 paisa, which went up to 26 paisa. For his arrest, rate was Rs. 4. All bookies and punters were kept on a vigil eye on the political scene and watching TV for latest up date. Some were very smart and calling news papers and news agencies offices for latest news. ‘No-No’ for Beauty, ‘Yes’ for Rain Its a million dollar question, ‘why the world of bookies were not interested in the beauty?’ big bookies of the game says that all beauty competition had a history of ‘pre fix results’, thus they were not interested in the book making in this field. Some were opened the books when Lara Dutta won the Miss Universe title for India. Every one knows about Lara’s win. Rates for Lara win were as low as 11 or 15 paisa. This shows that no one was interested in the beauty contest, but first time bookies wet their books in the rain. They started organized betting on monsoon. Monsoon was not only gave good time to the lovers, but bookies in Mumbai too. In one week punters poured money in the betting market, this went up to Rs. 400 crores mark. Interesting part of betting on Mumbai monsoon was that gamblers of Jaipur, Indore and Bhopal were also shown keen interest. Betting industry was aware that no one can fix the data of whether department of rain. Punters and bookies verify the data published in the daily newspapers. They were very confident about data; the first day turnover was Rs. 20 crores. KBC on the books Bookies kept the books open for Super Star Amitabh Bachhan’s TV Show ‘Koun Banega Crorpati’ too. There where only fancy betting on the bookie to bookie basis. When participant was sitting in front Amitabh and answering. Each question was a bet item. Bookies were taking bet when show was on the air. They were taking bet on the right answer, participants answer, his answer will be wrong or right, how much he will win, he will use a life line or not, how many life lines he will take, life line will benefit him or not? The rates for the KBC betting were 50 paisa to Rs. 5. ‘Football-Shutbal hai Rubba, Bhav Bollo’ Bookies opened the rates for Brazil win in the Football World Cup in the first week of July 2002. Bookies earned heavy amount in this world cup. Total turnover was 8,000 crores and bookies of Indian betting market cornered the lions share – Rs. 1,200 crore. Betting on the world cup football was all India phenomena. Rs. 4,000 crores were on the roll for Semi Final and Final matches of world cup only. Rest of the amount was rolled down on two rounds of matches and quarter finals. This time Mumbai bookies made a smart move. They made Kolkata as betting HQ for football, despite of Mumbai. Betting on football was to less from Pakistan. Camera, Lights, Action… Panch lagaya, Teen Khaya… Fixing and losses made bookies craze and they were searching safe betting field, were no can fix the results. They got it near Karishma kapoor, Govinda, Amaitabh Bachhan, Ravinaa Tandan… They thought it is impossible to fix the box office success of any film. ‘Herapheri’ of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Tabbu was a big hit in the bookies and punters. They bet heavily on ‘Herapheri’. When this film entered in the film market, rates of karishma-Salman starer ‘Dylhan Hum Le Jayange’ was nose dived. When bookies opened the rates on ‘Herapheri’, only first day they received Rs. 17 crores bet. Bookies were confident about successes of ‘Herapheri’ because of Paresh Rawal’s comedy and exams ridden student will run after the entertainment. ‘Mela’ was the first film; bookies of the Mumbai started betting on the glam-sham world. This was the first film in the last year of century’s first week. On the assumption of Mela’s success betting market kept pulse high and Rs. 125 crores were in the lose-win books. Film was a flop and bookies were happy. They earned Rs. 60 crores. After this film, a new trend started in the betting market. ‘Kaho No Pyar Hai’, super hit film of Rakesh Roshan also did well on the box office, as well as in the betting world. The bookies expected Juhi-Sharukh starer ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’ to do well on the box office, but failed to fulfill the hope. And due to this they suffered the heavy loss. Kamal Hasan’s ‘Hay Ram’ was based on Gandhi assassination, and bookies were confused regarding the successes of the movie but still accepted the betting. Bookies opened their books for the film awards after the seeing the profits of ‘Mela’. Betting on the two big film awards, ‘Filmfair Awards’ and ‘Zee Cine Awards’ were also accepted. Best Hero, Heroine, villain, debut star, musician, singer, comedians and other category of the awards were also on the line of betting. ‘Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya’ of Abhishek Bachhan-Kirti Reddy did not do well in the betting ring, as well as at box office. In the history of the betting on the films, rates on this film were worst for ever. Only Rs. 50 crores was come in the books for this film. Magic of Abhishek did not work on the bookies and punters. The world’s biggest film award, that is Oscar, was also on the betting target in March 2002. Inaian bookmarkers kept their books open for this because of Aamir Khan’s film ‘Lagaan’ was nominated in the foreign film category. Punters booked Rs. 200 crores betting on this subject. Lagaan was in the second position as per the betting market. In foreign film category, five films were in the race. ‘Emily’ of France was hot favorite in the Indian illegal betting market. Bookies opened 50 paisa rates on this film. Rs. 2 on ‘Lagaan’, Rs. 7 on ‘Ailing’ of Norway, Rs. 8 on ‘Son of the Bride’ of Argentina and Rs. 10 on ‘No man’s land’ on Bosnia. Bookies and punters are relaying on the data of the film hit or miss in one famous trade magazine on the film and entertainment. Leady in Bookies bigwigs The world of bookies is not for only man. Yasmin is a known name in the field of black business of money. Working from the Western suburbs of Mumbai, her job is to ‘Fix’ the matches. She is bridging the gap between bookies, big time betters, cricketers, hawala operators and money arrangers. Yasmin is opening a way between Fixers and Cricketers to talk about fixing the match. Intelligence agencies knew about Yasmin for long but could not make her arrest due to non availability of her address and proper evidence. An IB officer says on the condition of anonymity, ‘Yasmin has good contact in the political and administrative clout. She has good relation with some of senior police officers too. You can arrest her easily, and very difficult to prove her guilty in the fixing and betting case if made. She can destroy the case with her top approach.’ Bhav (Rates) Copy In the world of bookies, Bhav (Rates) is every thing. Network of the bookies is so strong, no one can understand, better then them, about when and how they make a match in favor of any team of person. For the bookies, not punters, every ball has its on price in the betting industry. Rates are going up or down on each ball. A four, a sixer, single or double run can make money for the bookie. Which batsman will make half century of a century, who will take a wicket of take a maiden over… every thing is a matter of rupees and bet. Best player, batsman, bowler of fielder in the match, in the series, were also mark of a bookie. Which team will win the toss and go for batting first can also be interest of bookie to take a bet. Bookies were taking the bet on score of a particular team, if they can make 200 runs, 300 runes or more. Not only this. They will cross this score in how many overs, this is also a matter of bhav. Which teem will win the match, is a popular bet between the punters and bookies. No Bookie likes Pak Teem No matter how Pak Team performs in the world cup, Mumbai Bookies could not make a wish to win on them. They were not ready to take a bet on Pakistan Cricket Team. Bookies assume every Pak match fixed, Thus they will be again in a big lose. When Pak team blamed for Fixing in the Sharjah Coca Cola Cup, Bookies of Mumbai decided not to take bet on the Pak team. Pakis won all matches in Sharjah Coca Cola Cup. After this match, Bookies put all their money in Pakistan-England match. But this time their assumption went wrong. Pakis lose all the matches, because they were fixed. Bookies loss was around 50 crores rupees in the same match. Pakistan was hot favorite in the bookies and Punters. When Bookies heard that Pakis had already fixed, they had stopped the betting, old booking were canceled and announced the ‘Souda Fok’. Dirty game of Haru Hara Those were the days, when Harish Thadani @ Haru Hara was a terror in the betting industry. Haru was also a bookie some time back. He lost his last rupee in a match between England-Pakistan in one world cup. Due to this he has been named ‘Hara’ (looser) by other bookies. After this he had started tipping off a minister about bookies. He supplied all necessary information, telephone numbers, address and names of all bookies to the secretary of this minister. Secretary started the extortion bid, if not paid, Haru was informing the police and trying to make them arrest. In those days Dadar police raided a den of Kheemji Batli, Nitin Babubhai Majithiya, Suresh Advani, Harshad Thakkar, Iqbal Memon, Gulam Mohammad, and Ramesh Mallik, and arrested them red handed taking bet on India-Australia match. Ramesh was working from Sangam Society near Worli Fire Brigade. Secretary of minister demanded Rs. 2 lakhs from Khimji but denied, Haru received a green signal from them and police raided his den in the night. Then he made a ‘Todpani’ (settlement) with the police for more then 10 lakhs. A Doctor or a bookie? In the world of bookies, illiterate or unemployed people ware not only working as bookies. Some time back police has been arrested Dr. Jayesh Shah (33) with lakshmikan Gada (29), Deepak Rajguru (25), Balaji Nadar (29), Ashok Kumar Yadav (30) and Uttam Gada (38) on the charges of betting in cricket. Dr Shah left the medical profession for four year before his arrest, and occupied betting job for full time. His cronies Jaynti Gada and Shanti Gada made a good escape from the hands of police. Police recovered 7 telephone instruments, 1 fax machine, papers related to betting and Rs. 24,480 in cash. Dr. Shah’s gang had a unique MOU for the betting operations. They had registered ‘Parmatma Credit Society’ and selling lotteries in the name of betting in the Ulhasnagar, Bhandup, Mulund and Andheri areas. Some mismatches! 1. Indo-Pak matches in Treford, for world Cup Super Six, bookies made huge profits, because for India win. About Rs. 500 crores changed the hands in the match betting and Mumbai bookies cornered the profit of Rs. 10 crores. Rates for win of Pakis was 70 paisa and for India Rs. 1.50. 65 percent punters kept their bet on Pak win due to Indian status. Suddenly Indian played well and Pakis losses the match, hence bookies made huge profits. 2. Mini World Cup in Shree Lanka, From September 12, 2002, was a remarkable time for Indian betting industry. Punters and bookies made souda of Rs. 5,000 crores within one month time. Win for Australia in Champion trophy was Rs.1.60, which was lowest rate, means definite win for the team. Shree Lanka was holding second place with Rs. 4.25 rate, third was India with Rs. 5.50, Pakistan was Rs. 7, England was Rs. 10, New Zeeland was Rs. 15, West Indies was Rs. 20, Bangladesh was Rs. 50, Kenya was Rs. 100 and Rs. 200 was shown for the win of Holland. A bookie told that time, ‘after a long time, we kept faith on this cup. This time BCCI, CCI and players were fighting for contract. We know that this time they don’t have time to fix a match. Every one knows that betting on this cup would be beyond imagination.’ 3. Indo-South Africa match fixing jolted the Indian betting industry, except Dubai, Delhi and Gujarat bookies. Betting industry loss was 175 crores in the said match. Bookies of Gujarat were aware about fixing and not taking bet on the win for India. Mumbai bookies were under dark and unaware of fixing. But funniest part of the fixing game was, 6 bookies from Mumbai fixed the game for their benefit. Delhi Police got specific information regarding fixing and sent a team to arrest the bookies but returned without single arrest after some time. Of the 220 crores betting in the match, maximum bet was on the win of South Africa. No one even dreamed about fixing, that South African captain will take money to throw the match against India. 4. Indo-England test series in second week of September 2002 won Rs. 400 crores for bookies from Rs. 900 crores of total betting. 90 percent punters put their money on the match draw. Sachin Tendulkar losses control in last minute and put all cricket lowers in vain, unable to make a century. But bookies were so happy for Sachin because this made them money. One bookie from central Mumbai told that, ‘every one knows that match will be a draw. Draw was hot favorite in the punters. But both teams played negative. As we thought Sachin couldn’t complete his century. That was beneficial for the bookies. There were fewer bookies in the test, so the participated bookies earned more. Only Shobhan was a loser because he kept on the betting assuming that England would win.’ This was also come in the knowledge of all bookies that all Indo-England matches were fixed by a big Kolkata bookie. Bookies were assuming that at least one team will leave the pitch in between the match. And they can make money, if this will happen. 5. Misbehave of the spectators of Rajkot and Jamshedpur was also part of the game of fixing. For the first 3 matches India was hot favorite in bookies and punters. First two matches were lost by India. But bookies were made hot favorite India in the third match too. They kept the rate for India win was only 52 paisa against the West Indies for Rs. 1.75. When West Indian players made score of more then 300 runs, rate for West Indies dropped down up to 70 paisa. But India went to Rs. 1.25. Again Indian players well and rate dropped for India win for 70 paisa. When India made 200 runs, rate went to 5 paisa for win. Due to this bungle, betting market crashed. Punters made huge bet on West Indies win and on one day match loss was 700 crores rupees for the bookies. There were 2 groups of bookies; one was taking bet on India win, anther group was taking the bet on the defeat. Some were started taking the bet on the rate of Rs. 10 for match disruption too. In this head only bookies made Rs. 60 crores souda. Betting on the all three matches in Gujrat was remarkable 2,500 crores and loss was 1,500 crores to the bookies. ………………………..……………………….…………..………………..… More Details & Content Coming Shortly |
