Money Laundering: Ranbir Kapoor’s cousin Armaan Jain summoned by ED in money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to actor Armaan Jain, the grandson of legendary actor Raj Kapoor and son of Rima Jain, as part of the ongoing investigation into the Tops Group case.

ED officials conducted searches at Jain’s residence on Altamount Road in South Mumbai earlier this week in connection with the case.

Friendship Connects: Jain and Vihang Sarnaik

Jain’s association with the case stems from his reported friendship with Vihang Sarnaik, the son of Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik, who is currently under investigation by ED.

Vihang Sarnaik has already been questioned twice in connection with the case, and ED officials seized data from his mobile phone during the questioning.

Suspicious Communications Trigger Search

ED authorities uncovered potentially suspicious communications between Jain and Vihang Sarnaik, prompting the search at Jain’s residence and the subsequent summons for investigation.

Notably, Pratap Sarnaik’s younger son, Purvesh, has also been called in for questioning as part of the inquiry.

Background on the Tops Grup Case

The Tops Grup case revolves around a significant contract awarded to Tops Grup by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for site security during MMRDA construction projects.

Allegations of misappropriation arose when it was discovered that the number of security guards deployed at the sites was substantially fewer than the contracted figures, resulting in substantial financial losses for MMRDA.

It is alleged that Sarnaik played a role in securing the contract for Tops Grup and received kickbacks from the company.

Arrests and Questioning

ED had previously arrested Amit Chandole, a close associate of Sarnaik, in connection with the case. Jain’s public relations manager could not be reached for comment on the matter.
